‘What is that?’ Creepy unknown critter caught on camera
PUEBLO, Colo. (Gray News) - People are positing a strange creature caught on camera in Colorado could be a raccoon, wolverine, or even a cryptid.
KKTV’s weekend anchor Grace Kraemer shared the video of something “spooky and creepy” with sports anchor Jessica Mendoza and meteorologist Josephine Saige during the 10 p.m. newscast on April 6.
Kraemer said a viewer had sent in the video, which shows what appears to be a small animal reaching out with its arms to grab something on the ground.
“Oh, what is that?” Mendoza said.
The viewer said she’s spotted the animal once before in the daytime and still has had no idea what kind of animal it is.
Saige suggested the animal looks like a “little badger,” while Mendoza said it looks like it could be a chupacabra.
“It could be a chupacabra,” Kraemer said. “Spotted on 11News, that’s kind of cool.”
A chupacabra is a legendary creature that is known to attack and suck the blood of animals. Although descriptions of what they look like vary, they are typically described as hairless canine-like creatures with reptilian features and red eyes.
According to Britannica, the first chupacabra report was in Puerto Rico in 1995. Reported sightings of the cryptid have since been reported throughout Latin America and the American Southwest.
Comments on Facebook where the video was first posted posited the creature could be a wolverine, opossum or raccoon. All three animals are reported to roam in the state of Colorado.
“Maybe it’s a baby Colorado sasquatch,” Saige joked.
