AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One couple will always love the 14th hole at Augusta National Golf Club.

That’s because it’s where Jack Zager dropped to one knee this week and asked Abby McElmurray to be his wife.

They met as freshmen at Furman and have been dating for 8½ years.

The couple had always dreamed of attending the Masters Tournament at Augusta National. Jack is an avid golfer, and Abby grew up in the Augusta area but never had a chance to go herself.

This year, that changed, thanks to some sweet friends who offered them Monday tickets.

When rain loomed that morning, Abby and Jack feared their long-awaited day might be dampened. But when the gates opened at 8 a.m., they were among the first in line.

By 9:15, they were walking the course, taking in the beauty of the National. As they paused to take a photo on the 14th hole, Jack got down on one knee and proposed.

It almost wasn’t a surprise.

A security guard felt the ring during the bag check and instinctively yelled congratulations, but thankfully Abby didn’t hear it, so she was blissfully clueless.
