COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - South Carolina’s Supreme Court has granted the state more time to respond to an appeal from Alex Murdaugh’s defense team.

The court order gives the state 120 more days to serve and file its initial brief and designation of matter in the case.

Judge makes ruling on 19-year-old Mallory Beach’s case

A judge has ruled on several long standing motions in a lawsuit between the family of Mallory Beach and Parker's Corporation.

This is the second time the state has asked for an extension.

Murdaugh is appealing his double murder conviction, saying he should be granted a new trial in part based on jury tampering allegations involving the former Colleton County Clerk of Court.

It has been more than two years since Alex Murdaugh was convicted of murdering his wife and son.
