AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - We’re learning two different bills at the Georgia Statehouse did not survive lawmakers’ final day of work two weeks ago.

We’ve been tracking House Bill 225 and House Bill 651 for months now.

Both have to do with automated school zone speed cameras.

Burke County to spend speed camera funds on jail renovation

The Burke County Board of Commissioners has voted to allocate school zone camera funds towards detention center renovations.

Flashing school zone lights and lower speed limits are back.

Rep. Dale Washburn, who authored House Bill 225, tells us there were last minute amendments made to both bills which was not approved by both chambers.

However, this doesn’t mean the bills are dead. Washburn says they can be continued next session.

House Bill 225 looked to completely ban private camera companies from operating in the state.

House Bill 651 looked to create tighter guidelines for the speed cameras.
