What’s the status of May Park’s progress after 2 years?
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - It’s been two years since $2.2 million in grant money was allocated for May Park.
Now, Augusta commissioners are finally moving forward with the first steps towards some much-needed renovations.
These upgrades are long overdue and much needed.
Potential is one word some neighbors use to describe May Park. That’s because to the average eye, you see just another park, but to some, they see life here, and they want to see life here
May Park was once the heartbeat of Javon Carrie’s neighborhood.
“It was a lot of children’s meetups right there before phones and all that, you’d get on your bike and walk,” said Javon, who grew up near May Park. “It used to be a swamp full of children and families.”
Deputies aim to revoke Augusta business’ liquor license
The Richmond County Sheriff’s office wants a restaurant’s alcohol license to be revoked amid claims that it’s operating more like a club.

Today, she walks these paths with her dad, David Carrie.
“I see potential,” said David. “They need a total renovation in May Park.”
David still lives nearby, and he says he re what the park was and what it could be.
“Take our advice and renovate this whole area and put a first-class, I want to emphasize, a first-class sports complex in this area,” said David.
At Tuesday’s commission meeting, we learned plans for May Park are in motion.
“Everything’s in place, and all you have to do, all you need, is the willpower to do it because everything’s in place,” said David.
Now, it’s just a matter of waiting.
“Once we get our leaders and they hear the voices of the people, we are hoping, praying that they understand a lot of us have ion,” said Javon. “Everybody may not be in front of the camera, but you would love to see your community growing and generational wealth ed on to the kids of homes, and just a chance to be in leadership positions.”
New traffic signal installed near North Augusta High School
A new traffic signal has been installed in North Augusta. The light is flashing right now to make drivers aware of it, but soon it will be full functional.

“And you don’t take care, take pride in nothing else other than home,” said Javon.
Perhaps no one has more pride than this daughter and father duo.
“I will leave you one thing,” said David. Robert F. Kennedy. I know he said some people see things as they are and say, Why? I see things as they never were and say, Why not?”
The designs for May Park are covered by grant funding received from the American Rescue Plan.
And it’s not just May Park that we’re waiting for improvements on.
Dyess Park got $6.5 million and Boykin Road Park got $1.6 million at the same time as May Park.
We’re still waiting on the much-needed changes for those parks as well.
