‘It’s unsettling...‘: 2-year-old dead after being shot in Atlanta apartment, police say
ATLANTA, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) - A toddler has died after being shot in southeast Atlanta, according to police.
According to police, officers responded to Hugh Spalding Hospital around 10:54 a.m. for a call of a child being shot. When they arrived, they found a two-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound being treated by medical staff.
The toddler later died at the hospital.
Police say their investigation showed that the incident happened inside an apartment at 100 Bell St. SE.
At this time, police say there are no outstanding suspects.
Residents living in the area told Atlanta News First that the incident is tragic.
“It’s unsettling because it’s like you try to do everything to protect your kids,” said Jaylyn Smith, a resident.
The Atlanta Police Department is actively investigating to find out how the firearm was discharged in the apartment.
