Finding Solutions: 2 groups partner to help people with medical equipment
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - If you’ve ever needed a wheelchair or even a medical bed for your home, you know that these items come at a high cost.
That’s why two local groups are coming together to help meet the increased demand for medical equipment.
Cutter’s Resource Closet and Sons of Consolation Ministries are finding solutions by working together.
Candice Garnett knows all too well what it’s like to need medical equipment after her brother was in a terrible car accident.
“They were going to discharge him home with family and we had to figure out how to get medical beds, wheelchairs, things of that nature to make sure we could take care of him at home because he did not have any insurance, and it was going to come out of pocket,” said Candice Garnett, benefitted from Cutter’s Resource Closet.
She says her mom had heard of Cutter’s Resource Closet, once known as Dana’s Recovery Room.
Finding Solutions: ReNforce looks to spark change for justice-impacted individuals
On Wednesday, the non-profit ReNforce, which serves those who are justice-impacted, held the Second Chance Conference.
They provide medical supplies, equipment and resources to people in need at no cost.
“They gave us a wheelchair for him, things we had a hard time getting, medical supplies. A week later, Cutter called me saying we have a hospital bed for your brother, so it just worked out,” said Garnett.
Cutter’s Resource Closet is now partnering with Sons of Consolation Ministries, a non-profit with volunteers who refurbish and repair medical equipment and then distribute it to third-party organizations like hospitals and home health providers.
By partnering with Cutter’s Resource Closet, they’re able to reach patients directly.
“For everything they get that they can’t use because it needs repair, we have the ability to repair it and to provide as much equipment as they need, and then they have the ability to get it into people’s hands. And ultimately, we can meet the needs of more patients that way,” said Don Cummings, Sons of Consolation Ministries.
And you at home can be a part of the mission.
Finding Solutions: Triple Crown Golf Classic s 2 local non-profits
On Monday, golfers took to Woodside Country Club for the annual Triple Crown Golf Classic, which s two local non-profits.
“It’s awareness, letting people know that we’re here and this is an option. It’s by volunteering or donating unused supplies, but it also comes down to financial donations or sponsorships and things like that,” said Cutter Mitchell, Cutter’s Resource Closet.
Both organizations helping each other help the community with a wider reach together.
“It’s very important to have these services. They made me so happy that me and my mom offered to come serve with them, so it’s rewarding to say the least,” said Garnett.
