AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A fire department in Saluda County that lost two of its own after an accident during Hurricane Helene is receiving a large donation.

Circle Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chad Satcher and firefighter Landon Bodie died after a tree fell on their truck during the storm.

The 9-11 Remembrance Foundation of South Carolina is now donating a $51,000 check to the department for equipment.

Funds will go toward essential fire and safety equipment. Some of the money is also set aside for a scholarship for the child of a Midlands firefighter.

The money was raised during a march fundraiser ing the 2 men who helped give back to others.

“Their needs do not end today, continued process and continued need,” said Michelle Sarokas, event organizer. “We want to make sure this fire dept always feels ed, feels like we’ve responded to them in their time of need.”

The foundation says Satcher and Bodie will be honored during the foundation’s annual morning of remembrance on Sept. 11, where pictures of all fallen heroes will be placed on the wall of remembrance.

“Landon hadn’t gotten into training, but Chad loved to train and teach,” said Summer Satcher, Chad’s wife. “Being able to provide that opportunity for someone else brings it full circle. Let their legacy live on with others.”
