(Gray News) – The Lyrids Meteor Shower is underway and will be active through April 26, according to NASA.

The agency said the peak will be Monday and Tuesday, with five or six meteors an hour visible when the sky is dark.

NASA suggests lying flat on your back with your feet facing east in a place away from lights.

“After about 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adapt and you will begin to see meteors,” the agency said, adding that you may have to be patient.

According to NASA, Lyrids don’t leave behind a glowing dust train as they streak through the air but can occasionally produce a bright flash known as a fireball.

The Lyrids Meteor Shower has been viewed for more than 2,700 years. NASA said the first recorded sighting of the Lyrids Meteor Shower was in 687 B.C.
