‘Can’t go wrong’: Augusta’s Rude Boy Deli is a time capsule to the past
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - You can take a step back in time at a 1950s-themed restaurant right here in Augusta.
Rude Boy Deli opened up late last year on Lumpkin Road. We got a look inside.
Russell Garrett has been in and out of kitchens his whole life.
He spent seven years working for a private catering company and recently, he found himself at an ime for what to do next.
Savannah River Brewery one step closer to serving food
If you’ve been to the Savannah River Brewery recently, you may have noticed what looks like a shipping container attached to the outside of the building.
“Kind of finding my way in life, doing a couple of different things, and none of them really struck me as long-term things I wanted to do,” said Garrett.
So, he got back to his roots and opened up Rude Boy Deli.
The original plan was a food truck, but there were some complications. So he changed course, moving into a space on Lumpkin Road.
“That was pretty hard,” said Garrett. “With every old building, there are a lot of challenges, but we kept our heads down and knocked it out.”
The restaurant is a time capsule of what he calls simple times.
Elemy’s Bagels brings options to local bagel lovers
Tucked away in a strip on Walton Way Extension, you can get the taste of a homemade bagel right here in Augusta.
A Pac-Man trash can, a hand-painted mural in the bathroom and a giant Betty Boop statue with a chair for photos.
“People love Betty, and you know she’s an icon in and of herself, so I had to have her,” said Garrett.
Or if you’d rather stand–that works too.
The menu puts a modern spin on some classic foods. If you like pimento cheese or hot honey foods, this place is right up your alley.
“Hot honey is one of my favorites, so making a sauce with it in there, you can’t go wrong,” said Garrett.
Rude Boy Deli is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
