Funeral home limo hit by a train while taking family of 6 to funeral
BARTLETT, Tenn. (Gray News) – Loved ones were gathered for a funeral in Bartlett, Tennessee Thursday afternoon, waiting for the children of the deceased to arrive when they learned those relatives were heading to the hospital instead.
A train crashed into the funeral home limousine carrying the family of six to the funeral on Stage and Bartlett Roads, pushing the vehicle over 100 feet up the tracks.
According to WHBQ, the limo smashed through a fence before stopping. It was completely crunched on one side and debris from the vehicle littered the tracks.
A family member told WMC that everyone injured in the crash, including a child, is expected to recover.
Two other vehicles were also impacted in the crash.
“There are no crossing guards here because of the complexity of the area, but they’re plenty of warning lights,” said Bartlett Alderman Kevin Quinn. “I know for me, living 500 feet away, that they do lay on the whole day and night, so you can always hear a train coming.”
The funeral company declined to comment, but the escort leading the limo came out unscathed.
