Dog cruelty charges against former NFL player dismissed
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - Charges of dog cruelty against a NFL defensive lineman have been dropped.
Former defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, who also played for the University of Alabama, was originally charged with animal cruelty in Tuscaloosa in 2024.
According to court documents, the charge was dismissed after Buggs’ defense team presented statements from a phone call that cleared him.
The state’s motion to dismiss the charges said another man named Otis Lee and an unnamed woman were on a phone call when Lee itted he did not care for the dogs to the best of his ability.
Buggs had asked Lee to watch his dogs and look after his house while he was out of town.
Lee said he “panicked” when he realized how much time it would take.
Buggs had been sentenced in July 2024 to a year of hard labor and 60 days in jail. However, those charged were suspended while Buggs appealed the conviction.
