COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - All students who were injured in a school bus crash in Chester County on Thursday have been released from the hospital, according to Lexington County School District Two.

The crash happened Thursday afternoon when three school buses carrying students from Pine Ridge Middle School were returning from a field trip in Charlotte.

The district said a tire blew on one of the buses, causing it to run off the road, strike a guardrail and overturn.

Several students were injured in the crash, and 13-year-old Jose Maria Gonzales Linares, an eighth-grader at Pine Ridge, died in the crash.

Richmond County School System Police responded to a situation where it appeared a student pointed an item that looked like a firearm at another student.

Funeral arrangements for Gonzalez Linares were announced by the Dignity Memorial on Monday.

A Gonzalez Linares will be held at his church Iglesia Santidad A Jehova in West Columbia, on Tuesday. His funeral will take place on Wednesday at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home. His burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens.

“Our focus since this devastating event has been, and will continue to be, our students, families, employees, and the entire Pine Ridge Middle School community,” said Lexington Two Superintendent Brenda Hafner. “Our heart aches for the family of the student who is no longer with us. We are thankful to know others who are being evaluated and treated have now been released.”
