AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - News 12 got an updated look at the demolition of the James Brown Arena Tuesday.

The building has been fully demolished — even the old ticket booths are gone.

There is some debris left of the old James Brown Arena as crews get ready to fill in the area with ground cement from the old JBA.

New Center of Hope project underway for Salvation Army

The Salvation Army of augusta is moving forward with its plan to open a new Center of Hope. It’s their overnight shelter, which has been used for more than 50 years on Greene Street.

Our last update was in February when we saw some of the progress — News 12 was told demolition was about 75 percent completed.

Now that the old building is mostly down the new James Brown Arena is getting closer to construction.

Leaders said they expect the new JBA to open in 2027, hopefully in time for spring graduations.
