Man faces aggravated assault charges after he was shot in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A man is facing aggravated assault charges after he was hit in a shooting incident in Augusta, according to authorities.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the 3000 block of Spring Grove Drive on April 5 at 8:17 p.m. in reference to gunshots.
Deputies say they met with two victims who stated a family friend, 54-year-old Pedro Pereira, threw trash on the ground of the property.
While Pereira was driving away, one of the victims called Pereira and stated, “If you respect my dad enough then why are you throwing trash on the ground at his shop?” according to deputies.
What led to hourslong south Augusta SWAT standoff?
An armed standoff in south Augusta ended peacefully Tuesday afternoon after more than two tense hours.

The victims stated Pereira put his vehicle in reverse and went back to the property, according to the incident report.
According to the report, the victims stated that after a brief argument, Pereira stepped out of his vehicle, pointed a gun and fired it in the victims’ direction.
The victims told deputies they also fired shots in Pereira’s direction in self-defense, according to the incident report.
The incident report states deputies also responded to the 2600 block of Lumpkin Road in reference to an assault.
Deputies say they located Pereira, who stated someone shot him near Deans Bridge Road.

The incident report states Pereira told deputies he did not know who shot him and he was too hurt to answer questions.
Deputies on the scene said they found multiple bullet holes, a handgun, 10 live rounds, one shell casing and a black magazine in Pereira’s vehicle.
Pereira was taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to the incident report, deputies determined the victims fired shots in self-defense.
Pereira is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
