Recovery center aims to help those struggling with addiction
McCORMICK, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Taking control of your life while battling addiction can be a very big challenge, which is why one local nonprofit is teeing up in a unique way to grow their mission as a round of golf could make a lasting impact.
From a landscaper’s dream to a lifesaving reality,
Gamechangers is making a difference in one life at a time by putting God at the center of recovery.
But leaders say they’re ready to expand the program.
fundraiser s programs at Garden City Rescue Mission
A local shelter is getting ready for one of its largest annual fundraisers. Garden City Rescue Mission is an emergency shelter for men with a goal of getting the gospel out to those in need.
Since opening in 2020, more than 60 men have come here to redirect and rebuild their lives.
Located in McCormick, the program blends spiritual healing with practical tools for men in the Augusta area.
In the classroom, they learn life skills, ability and biblical principles.
But outside, they’re learning something just as important: how to work.
They’re taught hard labor, landscaping, farming and maintenance, which are all skills leaders say to prepare them for life on the other side.
The goal is simple: helping men find freedom through faith and handwork.
Chicken With a Cop brings public, police together in North Augusta
On Wednesday in North Augusta, chicken with a cop was in full swing during the evening at the Chick-fil-A on Knox Avenue.
But to continue doing that, they need your help.
“Coming up in May, the 15th of May, at the Belle Meade Country Club this year, we are having our fourth annual golf tournament. It’s one of the ways that we can get out in the community and raise awareness about who we are,” said Adam Sellers, Gamechangers Program Director.
“You are going to be directly impacting this community. You’re going to be providing a way for someone to get treatment that can’t and being able to hang out with us, you know, and get to really look in the eyes of your investment. I tell everybody all the time, like when I’m talking to people about sponsoring like you’re investing in me, you know, because I wouldn’t be here if someone hadn’t helped me,” said Sellers.
At the end of the day, Sellers says it’s not just about changing one life. It’s about strengthening the entire community.
