Pres. Trump flies to Rome for Pope Francis’ funeral

Some 130 delegations and thousands of faithful expected to bear witness.

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are ing dozens of world leaders and dignitaries in Rome, Italy for the funeral of Pope Francis.

The Vatican confirms that 54 heads of state and 12 reigning sovereigns will attend the funeral of Pope Francis. Among those leaders – U.S. President Donald Trump.

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump emerged early Friday morning from the White House – as they began their whirlwind 24-hour trip to Italy.

“So we’re leading and going to Rome, where we’ll be attending the funeral of Pope Francis. Some of you are going to go. Anybody going? And, it’s going to be very interesting. We’re going to meet with a lot of the foreign leaders. They want to meet.”

Among the foreign dignitaries confirmed for the papal funeral are: French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prince William of the United Kingdom.

President Trump asked Friday how he will Pope Francis- who died Monday after suffering a stroke at the age of 88.

“Good man. He loved, He loved the world, actually. And he was just a good man. I met him twice. I thought he was a fantastic kind of a guy.”

For President Trump, the unexpected trip to Italy represents his first foreign trip of his second term. In three weeks, the President will embark on a planned trip to the Middle East - which will begin in Saudi Arabia.

Donald Trump was baptized in the Presbyterian church, but is now a non-denominational Christian. Melania Trump is Catholic.
