11 injured, 1 dead in shooting in tourist town of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

The State Law Enforcement Division confirmed to WMBF News on Sunday morning that they are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Myrtle Beach.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF/Gray News) - Law enforcement in South Carolina say 11 people were injured in a shooting in the popular tourist town of Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach Police said officers saw a disturbance around 11:50 p.m. on Saturday near the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

Police said during the altercation, officers saw someone fire a gun, at which time the department said an officer also fired their weapon.

Police said 11 people were injured in the incident and are receiving medical treatment. Officers identified the person who was shot and killed as 18-year-old Jerrius Davis of Bennettsville.

Myrtle Beach Police said the officer who fired their weapon was not injured.

“The Myrtle Beach Police Department offers its prayers and deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this incident,” the police department posted on its Facebook page.

SLED told WMBF that the incident has been ruled as an officer-involved shooting and is actively investigating.

Traffic along Ocean Boulevard was closed Saturday night but later reopened Sunday.
