Man arrested after Augusta’s 3rd SWAT incident in 2 weeks
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - For the third time in less than two weeks, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team dealt with a barricaded subject.
The sheriff’s office says deputies and of the U.S. Marshals Task Force attempted to arrest a federal fugitive at a home located on the 2000 block of Clark Street on Tuesday around 7 a.m.
Deputies say 58-year-old James Jackson was wanted for federal probation violations related to multiple narcotics and weapons possession charges.
Jackson also has a history of resisting and fleeing from law enforcement, the sheriff’s office says.
The situation escalated into a barricaded incident when deputies approached the home, which prompted the activation of the Richmond County SWAT Team for assistance, deputies say.
According to the sheriff’s office, tear gas was deployed inside the home, and Jackson was safely taken into custody without further incident at 8:03 a.m.
A second subject, 40-year-old Monica Rihm was arrested at the scene for an order to show cause and probation violation relative to narcotics.
Just last week, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team seen two other standoffs.
