True North Church hosts National Day of Prayer event
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Thursday is the 74th annual National Day of Prayer, which is an annual day of observance where people are asked to pray and meditate.
The True North Church in North Augusta hosted a prayer event on Thursday with a breakfast.
There were also speakers, including North Augusta Mayor Briton Williams and music.
“This is a godly community, but we are growing, and this is a community of a lot of unchurched, and this is a great witness opportunity for our churches. So, that’s what I pray that god will show favor in our community tonight during prayer walk in our city,” said Williams.
Williams says in North Augusta, the event started originally as the mayor’s prayer breakfast, but now he says in the last few years, he’s changed it to include the whole community.
“Grab a friend, get a neighbor if you just walked, praying for your own neighbor, that would be something,” said Williams. “It really does not matter where you got to go as long as we have people out praying and walking the streets of North Augusta, that will be how God can use us.”
Today is the Helene-extended tax deadline for CSRA residents
April 15 was the federal tax deadline but in South Carolina and Georgia, residents had until today to file both federal and state taxes following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Williams says there were a total of 15 churches hosting events in the city.
“We call it the North Augusta National Day of Prayer because we need the whole community to be involved, and we have a breakfast which is we have ministers praying for our state, our country, our armed services, our local officials. We have incredible music, and then tonight, we have our second city-wide prayer walk. We have up to 15 churches going around the community praying in our streets, and it’s so exciting,” said Williams.
Also on Thursday in Aiken, there will be another National Day of Prayer event.
This will be at the Lessie B. Price Center from 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
There will also be different prayer walks happening across North Augusta Thursday evening.
