S.C. senator confirms inspector general investigating treasurer
COLUMBIA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - South Carolina Senator Larry Grooms confirmed he has authorized the inspector general to begin investigating Treasurer Curtis Loftis.
The Inspector General was requested by the subcommittee to investigate matters raised in the subcommittee report that investigated Loftis.
The investigation was authorized days after the House decided not to take up the senate resolution to remove Loftis from his office during the session.
Officials issue ‘water watch’ after harmful blue-green algae found in S.C. lake
The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) issued a Recreational Water Watch for Lake Hartwell after identifying the presence of a harmful algal bloom (HAB).

“This is a great opportunity for Treasurer Loftis to clear his name,” said Senator Grooms.
In response, Loftis released a statement on Facebook saying “The Witch Hunt Rolls On.”
“We’ll cooperate fully, as we always do. But we’ll also keep telling the truth--no matter how many ‘investigations’ they invent,” said Loftis.
This comes just days after the State House decided not to vote on whether he keeps his job or not.
