AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -It was a double-dipper kind of night, both soccer and baseball playoffs were off and running from Burke County to Harlem.

This academic year, the GHSA is using a power ratings, which includes the use of a math model that ranks teams based on game scores. It helps seed playoff teams from A Division I to 3A.

But it isn’t foolproof, we saw that with girls’ basketball this season.

And in Burke County, it felt like it struck again.

Ranked as the No.5 team, the Bears were shut out in their doubleheader against No. 12 Franklin County. The Lions took game one 13-0 and game two 10-0.

At Harlem, the defending champions were back on the diamond against Whitewater. Whitewater is at No. 16, and Harlem ranked as No. 1.

The Dawgs played a relatively clean game in the opening round, winning 6-0. The last game, their lowest-scoring game of the season. The Dawgs were scoreless through four, and ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard for the first time since April 9, 2023.

They now play game three on Friday afternoon.

There are no 2A or 3A girls soccer teams left in the playoffs.

Pierce County defeated Thomson 10-0, ARC fell to Dawson County on the road 5-0, and Harlem lost at home in the midst of the doubleheader 8-0.
