MINDEN, La. (KSLA/Gray News) - A child has died after police say she was found unresponsive in a car seat in an area home.

According to the Minden Police Department, it is investigating the suspicious death of a 2-year-old child who was left unattended in a car seat at a home on Young Street.

The girl’s death was announced around 10:45 a.m. on Thursday.

Police said the toddler was taken to the hospital in a private car, but attempts to revive her failed.

Detectives said there were no adults in the home where the child was found. They say the car seat’s locking mechanism may have malfunctioned, causing the girl to choke.

A 10-month-old child was also found in the home at the time of the incident, unharmed.
