Edmund Burke baseball undefeated in region play
WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Edmund Burke Academy hasn’t won a state title in baseball since 2019.
So far this year, they’ve won state in football and won their second girls’ track state title. Baseball could complete a triple crown for the Spartans.
They’re the No. 3 team in GIAA AA play. Holding the number one spot for most of the season, this is the third straight year that they’ve been undefeated in region play.
They haven’t lost in AA region 4 since losing to Briarwood Academy on April 15, 2022.
Former MLB pitcher and current head coach Jonathon Broxton has been with the Spartans since 2019, when they last won state.
This year’s team is a good reminder of those same tangibles.
“This group reminds me a lot of those guys,” said Broxton. “We were just a lot younger in the ‘19 group, I had 11 juniors. This group reminds me of them, I mean, they gel really well, they’re energetic. They go out there, and they play and handle business.”
