S.C. natives are launching new artificial intelligence platform

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Artificial intelligence will fill in your address automatically when shopping on line; however, it can do so much more.

An AI company is opening in South Carolina.

Qwerky AI its software, similar to Chat GPT or Open AI, but developers said Qwerky helps enhance human intelligence rather than replace it.

While owners said it’s much like other AI platforms, Qwerky said its business model was created at a fraction of the cost of larger AI companies at its $2 million price point.

The software is a large language model software - You speak or type whatever you need assistance with and the AI creates a solution.

“We’re offering something that is a complementary addition to their existing infrastructure,” said Chief Revenue Officer Andrew Strauss.

Strauss said staff is made up mostly of people who graduated from the University of South Carolina. He said the decision to open their headquarters here at home has already sparked local interest.

“With us being born and raised here. Went to school here. It was exciting to be able to plant ourselves and make this our home.”

As summer is coming up, local leaders are stressing the importance of sunscreen.

“I think it’s really unique for us to be kind of the trendsetter in the brewing industry as we keep growing,” said potential client and Inbox Beverage owner, Max Fann.

While the software is similar to Chat GPT or Open AI for example — Strauss said Qwerky serves as an added layer for the large language model software like companies, not competition.

“So we’re saying hey Open AI, Claude, Grok. Take our inference engine and put it on top of your model and see the results,” said Strauss.

Potential clients and business owners looking forward to seeing more AI right here in the Palmetto State.

Columbia County Deputy Brandon Sikes was ed as one of the brave men standing between good and evil, but someone who shied away from the spotlight in his heroism.

“Oh, it’s a new wave. You’re seeing it all over social media. Different businesses are using it. You can go on a website and ask AI a question,” said Fann.

Qwerky is scheduled to have its grand opening Tuesday at 2 p.m. at its headquarters at 700 Huger St. in Columbia.

The owner said it will feature craft beers with labels designed by its AI software.

The company said it has partnered with Segra, a fiber and cloud company also with ties to Columbia.
