Strollers recalled due to risk of entrapment, officials say

(Gray News) – U.S. officials are recalling a number of strollers after a risk of young children becoming entrapped in them was discovered.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) is warning consumers to stop using Magic ZC-branded model V9 infant strollers.

The CSPC said the strollers pose a risk of death or serious injury to babies due to the entrapment hazard, which can be caused due to an opening between the seat and grab bar. This risk violates the federal stroller regulation.

Officials also said the handheld infant carrier accessory sold with the stroller fails to meet the markings, labeling and instructional pamphlet requirements under the current carrier standard.

The strollers are manufactured in China, and the SC said it issues a Notice of Violation to Dongguanshi Maijikekeji Youxiangongsi and Dongguan Reborn Trade Technology Co. Ltd., but both firms have not agreed to an acceptable recall of them.

The Magic ZC-branded 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 strollers have a foldable stroller seat that converts into a bassinet.

They are sold in pink, gray, peach, cream and black colors with golden metal accents.

The strollers come with a bottom storage basket, rear storage bag, seat cushion, shoulder bag, mosquito net, changing mat, rain cover and bassinet footrest.

The words “Magic ZC” are printed on the stroller’s golden frame and stitched on the seat. “Model V9” is printed on the cover of the instruction manual.

The 3-in-1 stroller is also sold with a handheld infant carrier and attachment base for use in a car.

The SC said anyone who has purchased any of the strollers should stop using them immediately and dispose of them. They also should not sell or give away the strollers to anyone else.

The SC did not report any injuries related to this hazard.
