WARRENTON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Warren County teacher has been arrested after allegedly making verbal threats to students and staff, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Mason Garrett, 22, of Newton County, was arrested on April 29.

According to a press release, on April 28, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer requested the GBI to investigate a potential incident involving terroristic threats and acts made by a teacher at the school.

The investigation showed that on April 24 at Warren County High School, Garrett made verbal threats to shoot both staff and students at the school.

The school district tells us that Garrett was a first-year agriculture teacher and that he made inappropriate comments in one of his classes earlier that day.

“The District’s preliminary investigation determined Mr. Garrett’s remarks during his class included a specific threat directed toward his supervisor,” a spokesperson for the school district said.

School officials say Garrett is on istrative leave until the matter is resolved and that they are fully cooperating with law enforcement.

Garrett is charged with one felony count of terroristic threats and acts, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Garrett was booked into McDuffie County jail and is out on bond.
