COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -The Children’s Hospital of Georgia received a check from proceeds of the Columbia County Spring Fair.

The check presented by the Association of Columbia County is worth $150,000.

VA Augusta expands mental health services for local veterans

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and VA Augusta health system has announced some events and initiatives that are aimed at enhancing veterans’ mental health.

Officials say the money will help with upgrades, new beds in the PICU unit, and new bassinets for the NICU unit, all of which will the children and their well-being in the hospital.

“It’s hard to do healthcare without philanthropy and children. Everybody wants to make sure their child does not get left behind, because that’s our future, can’t leave our future behind. So, whenever you have sick children, everyone who has experienced having a sick child wants to make sure they can reinvest in the care it takes to take care of sick children,” said Dr. Ralph Turner, president, Wellstar MCG Health.

This is the second year the Merchants Association of Columbia County has donated to the children’s hospital through the spring fair.

Over a dozen Richmond County students commit to a career in education

These students will a growing network of more than 50 Richmond County School System alumni preparing to become the next generation of teachers.

“It is one of those things that when you walk through our facility and you go into our NICU or you go into our PICU and you see some of the sick kids, immediately you are going to do all that you can them, and the local community really picks up on the ,” said Turner.
