AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - If you’ve got a sweet tooth, there’s a new bakery in Lincoln County that has exactly what you’re looking for.

Inside the cozy town of Lincolnton sits a cozy bakery.

Sugar Babes was opened by Melissa Norman and her son, Tripp.

“I’ve just always wanted to have a little bakery. I like to bake,” said Melissa.

Getting the space was no problem, but making it into what it is now was a process.

‘Can’t go wrong’: Augusta’s Rude Boy Deli is a time capsule to the past

You can take a step back in time at a 1950s-themed restaurant right here in Augusta.

“We had to revamp the whole area and make it look better,” said Tripp. " We had to put up that wall to separate it from the kitchen for the other restaurant and things like that.”

They opened up late last year, and the response they got early on was overwhelming.

“We couldn’t keep stuff in the cases,” said Tripp. “It was just days full of nothing but cooking because people would come in and buy you out as soon as you cook it. I think it’s more successful than I thought it would be because it’s a small town, I didn’t think many people would really come out, but we’ve had a lot of from the community.”

Now they’ve found their groove, putting out cinnamon rolls, muffins, cakes and a rotating menu of things.

And with just the two of them running the shop, they’re getting to do it together as a family.

“That’s probably the hardest part,” said Tripp.

“Sometimes we butt heads, but at the end of the day it’s good,” said Melissa.

You can find Sugar Babes on Main Street in Lincolnton. They’re open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
