In deadly week on Augusta roads, deputies crack down on drivers
Traffic enforcement is increasing across Richmond County, and drivers who are speeding, distracted or reckless can expect to be stopped.

We spoke with the student speaker about her message for graduating students.
“My primary message in my speech was about starting over, but I feel like when we talk about starting over, we think about ‘oh we’ve done lost all our work, we gotta start from the beginning.’ You just think everything that you’ve done like it doesn’t mean anything anymore, but starting over doesn’t mean you’re starting brand new. The thing is, you learn from experiences before, and you apply it to new situations, and try again,” said Tazheara Butts, social worker, minor political science.
“The journey was very much about discovering who I am as a person. My freshman year, I was very undecided, I thought I knew everything.. didn’t know a lick of what I thought I knew. I took my sophomore and junior years to really evaluate myself and find out who I was as a person. And now, we’re here at my senior year, and it feels like all the work I’ve done in the last three years and before that, it was really worth it to discover this person that I am today,” Butts said. “I’m glad I don’t got to turn in any more assignments at 11:59, I’m sleeping good tonight, sleeping good!”
