NEWNAN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Just two years ago, Greenbrier girls soccer team went into the state championship game as the first team from Columbia County to ever make it there.

In Newnan on Thursday night, they had a chance to make it there a second time, but they fell just short to Northgate High School, 3-1 in the final four.

Greenbrier and Northgate entered this game having only given up one goal each in the playoffs so far.

No. 1 Harlem faces No. 8 Pickens in baseball quarterfinals

Harlem baseball is that much closer to their chance at a 3-peat, but under Jimmy Lewis’ charge, they’re not letting the future get too ahead of them.

Something was going to have to give, and it was the Vikings who got it first.

The pack gave up two first-half goals and was kept off the opposite side of the field nearly the whole game.

It wasn’t until Greenbrier was down -0 with just 20 seconds left, that they finally found the back of the net.

The pack’s season came to an emotional end in the 5A GHSA semifinals.

So far this year, Edmund Burke Academy has won state in football and won their second girls’ track state title. Baseball could complete a triple crown for the Spartans.

“I mean, they gave it all. They did what I asked them to do. Again, I’m just proud of them. You don’t learn anything from a soccer game, right now you learn about life and how to deal with adversity, and just those moments when it doesn’t go your way, how can we be positive and just be proud of who you are, and I’m proud of what we did,” said Dallas Dickerson, Greenbrier soccer.

While it hurts to end your high school career without winning a state championship game, this Greenbrier girls senior class walks away as the most decorated in school history.

“They’ve set the standard for we’re not just one and done in the playoffs. We’re going deep, and we just gotta find that deep, deep fine grind to get through the final. We’ll be back and I’m proud of them,” said Dickerson.
