Augusta man arrested after attacking and choking his child’s mother
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - An Augusta man has been arrested and charged with battery and cruelty to children in the third degree after he attacked and choked the mother of his child, according to an incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Thomas Maloyd was arrested on May 10, according to jail bookings.
The incident report states deputies responded to Spruce Street on Nov. 8, 2024, at 10:01 p.m., where they met with the victim and her daughter.
The victim said her child’s father, Maloyd, assaulted her because she wouldn’t give him a ride, according to the incident report.

Authorities say Leo Jermaine Cheeks, an inmate at Lee Correctional Institution, died in the facility. Cheeks was found unresponsive in his cell.

Mayloyd told the victim she had to drop him off somewhere, and when she refused, Mayloyd began punching and choking her in front of her daughter, according to the report.
The victim also said Maloyd threw a chair at her, the report says.
Mayloyd then left the scene, according to the report.
Deputies viewed video footage of the assault and saw Maloyd punching the victim multiple times, picking up a chair and throwing it at her and striking her, according to the report.
Deputies observed injuries on the left side of the victim’s neck, redness on her face and scratch marks on her left arm, according to the report.
