AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Georgia’s high school track and field season wrapped up a few weeks ago, and the start of a dynasty could be brewing down at Edmund Burke Academy.

The Lady Spartans won state last year, and this year was the first time the program took home a region title and a state title in the same season.

The back-to-back defending champs are led by their coach, Monika Mobley.

She says at least one of her girls podiumed in nearly every meet.

Her team also set three new school records at state this year in the 4x100, the 4x400 and the 4x800 races.

Mobley says those accomplishments were only achievable by the leadership her team showed all year.

“The seniors are not only very talented, but they’re also great leaders. We had some young girls come up this year, and with the leadership of the older girls, and the extra talent coming up from the younger girls, I felt right away at the beginning of the season very good. I felt that we would win state and probably again next year,” said Mobley.
