Like clockwork: Cedar Creek Road floods again after heavy rain
AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Flooding on Cedar Creek Road may look really bad to some of you at home, but this is not shocking to families who live on the Aiken County road.
It’s like clockwork every time it rains. You can see the road completely washed away.
The carved-out sections on each side of the dirt road are waist-deep.

This has been an issue 12 On Your Side Investigates uncovered in August of last year.
28-year-old Dylan Turner died while staying at a home on Cedar Creek Road.
He was having a medical emergency when the people he was with called 911 for help.

We made our way through several counties, including Barnwell, Bamberg and Allendale, all of which have areas that are underwater.

You can hear dispatchers telling Aiken County EMS that they have to go a different route because Cedar Creek Road was washed out.
This has been a known problem to the county for years.
Aiken County told 12 On Your Side back in April of 2023 that it had spent $30,000 to $50,000 trying to solve the issue, along with the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
That number has only increased since then, with neighbors saying the road has washed out dozens of times since then, including during Tropical Storm Debby.
Now, we’ve had Hurricane Helene and this storm, so we can all assume that number is much higher now.
Neighbors told our crews that the county just came out a few weeks ago to fix damage from Hurricane Helene.
Aiken County officials tell 12 On Your Side that the only solution is to pave the road and install the proper drainage systems.
We know $800,000 of state money has been set aside for county road and drainage projects.
We have yet to see any work completed.
