NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - For the third time since the start of the South Carolina High School League Softball Playoffs, another local team’s championship hopes have been dashed.

North Augusta lost to Midland Valley, then beat South Aiken to sent them home, and they now have to play Midland Valley again.

The Jackets are the deciding factor between which local team will get to move on.

Head coach Lindsey Jones says it comes down to knowing the difference between a region game and a playoff game.

“It’s hard because it almost felt like a region game, not a playoff game. And that’s what we had to tell our girls when we played in the Valley the other day. It’s not a rival game, that’s for region, that’s for regular season. This is the playoffs, everybody’s playing different. So, you get those, ‘it’s not a rival game’ nervous situation. It’s a ‘let’s come ready to play in playoff’ situation. So, we try not to think that they’re a region team that we’ve already played. We just try to come in thinking they’re a playoff caliber team.”

While North Augusta Softball tries to avoid double elimination, the Jacket’s baseball team will host Gilbert at home for the Lower State District A Championship.
