Pres. Trump promotes Saudi deal
Also has warning for Iran during stop in Riyadh
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump kicks off his Middle East trip in Riyadh and touts a new investment deal with Saudi Arabia.
This overseas is aimed at increasing economic ties between the U.S. and the Arab world. And on the first day of his 4-day trip, President Donald Trump made a major economic announcement.
Just hours after landing in Riyadh and stepping off Air Force One, the President and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed several commercial agreements that the White House says amounted to more than $600 billion over four years, much of that in U.S. military equipment sales.
“With this trip we’re adding over $1 trillion more in of investment and investment into our country and buying our products.”
Details on the investments are scarce. The President also expressed his desire to have Saudi Arabia the Abraham Accords; aimed at normalizing ties with Israel.
“It’s my fervent hope, wish and even my dream that Saudi Arabia, a place I have such respect for, especially over the last fairly short period of time, what you’ve been able to do, but will soon be ing the Abraham Accords. I think it’ll be a tremendous tribute to your country and it will be something that’s really going to be very important for the future of the Middle East.”
The President also hoping that the Arab world will the U.S. in containing Iran and its nuclear ambitions.
“I want to make a deal with Iran. If I can make a deal with Iran, I’ll be very happy if we’re going to make our region and the world a safer place. But if Iran’s leadership rejects this olive branch and continues to attack their neighbors, then we will have no choice but to inflict massive maximum pressure, drive Iranian oil exports to zero like I did before.”
After Saudi Arabia, President Trump will next travel to Qatar. The President is facing bipartisan criticism over his desire to accept as a gift from Qatar, a luxury 747 plane as the new Air Force One.
