Rain helps increase Carolina Forest wildfire containment to 93%
HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Officials with the South Carolina Forestry Commission credit recent rain for an increase in containment of the Carolina Forest wildfire.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, SCFC said the fire is now 93% contained, up from the previous 90%.
This comes after Carolina Forest picked up three inches of rain this past weekend, according to WMBF News First Alert Meteorologist Andrew Dockery.

SCFC also posted a video showing that there are still some smoldering areas, and more rain is needed to fully contain the fire.
“While some sprinklers have been shut off in lower lying areas, some will still be seen still doing their job to reduce the heat in the ground,” SCFC stated in its post. “Firetrack machines are still being used to go direct on smoldering spots near the firebreaks.”
SCFC added that the rain also helps take the load off of firefighters.
“This rain allows us to reduce the amount of personnel active on the fire until it is necessary to increase the response again after the area dries up enough to determine how effective the rain is at helping out,” the post reads.
HCFR shared SCFC’s post, saying that nature is helping move things in the right direction.
However, HCFR warned that smoke and flare-ups are still going to be common in the meantime.
