Braves OF Ronald Acuna Jr. set to begin rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a home run in his first game in nearly a year for the Braves’ Florida Complex League team in its game against the Orioles’ FCL team on Tuesday, and now he’s preparing for his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers starting Thursday.
Acuña went 1-for-3 in his first game since he tore his right ACL on May 26, 2024, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing right field before getting pulled from the game in the seventh inning.
Acuña’s return would certainly be a boost for Atlanta, which currently has Michael Harris II, Alex Verdugo and Eli White manning the outfield. Jurickson Profar is currently serving his suspension for testing positive for PEDs.
A player can only be assigned to a rehab assignment for 20 days or less, meaning Acuña is in line to be activated from the injured list on June 1. It could be earlier, however, based on how his body responds to the workload these next few weeks.
Acuña had surgery on his left ACL on June 6, 2024, limiting him to just 49 games last season. He hit .250 with four homers in 2024, one year after hitting 41 home runs with 73 steals and a .337 batting average en route to a National League MVP Award.
