GRAPHIC: Video shows paraprofessional throwing ball at student’s head, slamming child onto ground
GULF COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/Gray News) – A paraprofessional in Florida was arrested after he was caught on camera assaulting a middle school student.
The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46-year-old Eric Keion McNair on Thursday.
Officials said McNair was a paraprofessional and a track coach at Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School.
According to the sheriff, on May 8, deputies were notified about what happened between McNair and several middle school students.
Video shows him forcefully running up to a student in the gym and throwing what appears to be either a volleyball or basketball at the child’s head. McNair is then seen grabbing the student, pulling them out of the bleachers, and slamming them to the ground.
The student involved reportedly confirmed what investigators saw in that video.
McNair has been charged with one count of battery, with additional charges pending.
He also resigned from his position on the day the incident happened, officials said.
