CLEMSON, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Clemson softball has one of the best pitching cores in Division One softball right now and Evans Reese Basinger is a big reason to back that up.

Basinger transferred from Winthrop and, after aiding the Tigers in securing the program’s first ACC championship, the former Knight was named ACC pitcher of the year.

The righty and 11th-seeded tigers are hosting the NCAA regional for the third time in the last five postseasons.

On Friday, they play USC Upstate in the opening round. It’s what Basinger came to Death Valley for.

“I know for me a main part of the reason I transferred is because I wanted these opportunities to play in postseason and with the amazing fans that we have and stuff and play these competitive games, so I’m super excited,” said Basinger. “I’ve never played in a regional before, and we have the best fans in the country, so I know this place is gonna be packed and it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
