SUV towing a car backward with a chain causes chaos on highway
HOUSTON (Gray News) – A car being improperly towed by an SUV caused a dangerous situation on a highway in Houston on Tuesday.
Video of the incident shows a white SUV pulling a blue sedan by a chain. The sedan is facing backward and swinging back and forth across multiple lanes of the 610 Loop.
According to KTRK, police said the blue sedan broke down, and the driver and his girlfriend said they did not have money to call a tow truck, so they towed the vehicle themselves by using a chain.
But during the tow, the sedan’s axel broke off, causing it to swing back and forth between lanes.
Witnesses said the man stayed inside the sedan as his girlfriend towed it in the SUV.
“I don’t know whose idea it was to pull the car from the back like that, normally on a chain you pull a car from the front,” witness Ken Collins told KHOU. “But that’s my only thought, why did they pull it from the back? Especially on the freeway.”
Miraculously, the incident did not cause a crash, and Collins said he saw the vehicles come to a stop on Feeder Road.
Police said the driver of the sedan was arrested for an active warrant he had out of Georgia, but no citations were given in this case.
