Deputies: Driver in deadly crash in Clemson possibly connected to missing person case
CLEMSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said the driver in a deadly crash in Clemson maybe connected to a missing person case.
According to Highway Patrol, around 8:30 a.m., the Central Police Department was pursing a Honda Accord heading west on Highway 93 when the driver tried to take the ramp to Highway 76 and ran off the left side of the road. The driver went into an embankment and overturned.
After further investigation, the Pickens County Coroner’s Office said the driver of the Honda shot himself in the head after crashing. He ed away at Prisma Hospital and was identified as 32-year-old Jeremy Basquette.
Traffic light falls on person riding a motorcycle in Aiken County
Sweetwater Road at Edgefield Road was shut down due to an accident involving a motorcycle, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, May 16, in a Facebook video Sheriff Blankenship announced Basquette maybe linked to the disappearance of 68-year-old Steven Whitemire.

Whitmire went missing late Wednesday night from his home on Whitmire Hill Road.
Officials said he is 5 foot, 7 inches and weighs about 150 pounds.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was called to the scene to assist.

Clemson University Public Safety said all traffic coming out of Clemson on Highway 76 traveling towards Anderson is being redirected onto Highway 93.
