Augusta University set to renovate school’s softball field
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - As part of Augusta University’s recent athletic facility renovations, the softball field is on deck to be the next venue to get a makeover.
For years, fans have either sat in the grassy area next to Jaguar Field, or in small bleachers behind homeplate.
Starting next season, the venue will have 225 chairback seats behind the backstop, as well as an official press box built in between.
“I think that it says we are a priority, that the community can take pride in their athletics department, and it allows our student athletes to know that they’re a priority as well,” said head coach, Melissa Brocato.
9-year-old donates money from lemonade stand to Columbia County deputies
9-year-old Presley has her own lemonade stand that she has been running for a while, and she donates the money she makes.

The university also has plans to add new batting cages to the outside of the field, as the previous cages were damaged beyond repair due to Hurricane Helene in fall of 2024.
Brocato says the new look will reflect the renovations done to the school’s baseball stadium earlier this year.
“Well, it’s no doubt that they’re making athletics a priority, putting a lot of emphasis on the beautiful building that we have now,” she said. “A couple of years ago, we had the bathrooms and concession stands put out there for fans and players. Seeing what they’ve done with the seating at baseball, and ours is going to look like that and mimic that in a lot of ways.”

Work on Jaguar Field is expected to start in the coming weeks, with completion slated before the start of the 2026 season.
Renovations to the school’s athletic facilities began with Christenberry Fieldhouse, which is nearly complete.
