Pres. Trump speaks with Putin, Zelenskyy
Trump says negotiations for a ceasefire will begin immediately
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - A frustrated President Donald Trump spoke to Presidents Putin and Zelensky about ending the war in Ukraine.
Just a day after Russia launched one of their biggest drone attacks in three years, President Trump held two key calls with the two leaders who could tly end the war in Ukraine.
Saying the conversations went very well, President Trump posted on social media that “Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will begin immediately,” and adding that the goal is a ceasefire and an end to the war.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president has a goal, “he has made it clear to both sides that he wants to see a peaceful resolution and a a ceasefire as soon as possible.”
Ukraine agreed to that ceasefire more than two months ago, but Russia has not. The President in the past has blamed Putin for dragging his feet saying, “it takes two to tango.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt spoke to reporters Monday morning, “The president has made it clear his goal is to see a ceasefire and to see this conflict come to an end and he’s grown weary and frustrated with both sides of the conflict. The president has his team have put an enormous amount of effort in solving this very complicated war.”
This was President Trump’s third call with Putin since taking office. Putin told reporters the discussion was “very meaningful and quite frank.” Trump has said that he’s open to meeting directly with Putin, but such a meeting would depend on whether any progress was made during Monday’s call.
