South Carolina, UGA, Clemson softball teams heading to NCAA Super Regionals

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The NCAA Softball regional round has wrapped up, and three of Augusta’s surrounding Division 1 programs are one step closer to appearing in the Women’s College World Series.
Starting in Columbia, South Carolina poured on the runs Sunday night against North Florida, and punched a ticket to the Super Regional round for the first time since 2018.
The Gamecocks run-ruled the Ospreys in the fifth inning and won 8-0, capping off a three game sweep in the regional round.
South Carolina will host UCLA in a best-of-three series starting Friday, May 23.
Over in Durham, Georgia faced elimination Sunday night in their regional finale against Duke.
UGA entered the game with a split series against the Blue Devils, with a winner takes all game on the line.
The Dawgs trailed 2-0 after the first, and it wasn’t until the seventh inning that they found life.
Lyndi Rae Davis tied the game with an RBI single, sending the game to extra innings.
The Dawgs exploded for three more runs in the eighth inning to seal a 5-2 victory over Duke.
This marks the fourth time in the last five years that Georgia will play in the Super Regional round.
Georgia will travel to Gainesville, Friday, May 23, to face Florida in a best-of-three series.
Back in the Palmetto State, Clemson took care of business.
Coming off an ACC Championship victory, third basemen Alex Brown led the way with two hits and two runs scored to help the Tigers win 5-1 over Kentucky.
Like South Carolina, Clemson also swept their regional round schedule.
This marks the third time in the last four years that the Tigers will play in the Super Regional round.
Clemson will travel to Austin, Friday, May 23, to face Texas in a best-of-three series.
