An Allendale County student has died just days ahead of graduating from high school, according to the Allendale County School District.

ALLENDALE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Authorities are investigating the death of an Allendale County teenager just days before his graduation – and they’re asking for the public’s help finding the killer.

The Allendale County School District says 17-year-old Andrey Gadson Jr. was a senior at Allendale-Fairfax High School.

He was shot in an incident that was reported to the Allendale Police Department and Allendale County Sheriff’s Office around 1 a.m. Sunday on Butler Street.

Gadson later died from his injuries.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating.

42-year-old bicyclist dies in crash on Peach Orchard Road

A bicycle rider has died in a crash on Peach Orchard Road and Willis Foreman Road on Monday morning, according to officials.

The school district released this statement:

“His loss has deeply affected our entire Tiger Family, and we are heartbroken by this devastating news. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s wish for privacy as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”

Graduation is this week.

His school bus driver, Elizabeth Rollins, posted on Facebook about his death Monday morning.

“This morning was incredibly tough, Dre, to drive past your house knowing you wouldn’t be getting on, but I still had to push through with my procedure,” she write. “Dre, the tears started flowing. Then to arrive at the next stop and see your bus family crying and wanting to hug, that made it even harder, but I asked God to strengthen me and my students on bus 2.”

She wrote that he’d been one of the students who’d ridden on her bus the longest.

She called him an exemplary student.

“Dre, it was okay for you to leave me when you graduated because I knew our paths would cross again, but to leave me like this is truly heartbreaking,” she wrote.

She wrote that she’d gotten the notification that he was in the hospital.

“I came praying and asking God for your well-being,” she wrote.

She waited outside with others until the end.

Richmond County sheriff chases down shoplifting suspect

During a visit to Walmart, Richmond County’s sheriff happened to be in the right place at the right time to chase down and capture a shoplifting suspect.

“I’ll reserve your seat for that special student who can sit in the back, sleep, and wake up when we arrive at the high school, and then say, ‘Now we can talk,’” she wrote.

“If only my tears could give you more time with us, but God knows best.”

Grief counseling services will be available for students on Monday, according to the school district.

School officials also say there will be an increased law enforcement presence on campus as an added safety measure.
