1 in custody after suspicious death at ‘nasty’ Augusta home

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says it’s investigating a suspicious death that occurred in an abandoned house.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - One person is in custosy after a suspicious death last week in Augusta.

David Grigg, 62, was found dead around 9:45 a.m. on May 13 in a condemned home in the 2200 block of Harding Road, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

Bowen called the home “unsafe, nasty and uninhabitable.”

Deputies say they were escorted to Grigg by the victim’s friend.

On Tuesday, investigators said Javon Latrelle Johnson, 38, was wanted for questioning in the case.

Driver identified in hit-and-run that killed 24-year-old

A pedestrian is dead and a driver is in custody after a hit-and-run in Hephzibah on Monday, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Johnson was found by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team on Wednesday and taken into custody on a probation violation unrelated to this investigation.

He was booked into the Richmond County jail, according to deputies.

The sheriff’s office said there have been no arrested made in this case.

Last week, deputies told us they were also seeking Kelly Noel McBurney, 48, and Jessica Renee Spurling, 34, for questioning.

On Tuesday, we learned that McBurney has been located and released. Investigators are still searching for Spurling.

Spurling is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. She has an outstanding warrant for her arrest in Richmond County for an unrelated felony probation violation.

Both are known to frequent the areas of Harding Road, Balfour Road, and the 3000 block of Peach Orchard Road, according to deputies.
