Dawn Staley’s book ‘Uncommon Favor’ goes on sale
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Dawn Staley’s first book “Uncommon Favor” is available to the public starting Tuesday.
The legendary head coach of the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team announced she had written and published a book back in February. After much anticipation from the community, it’s finally here.
“Here it is y’all,” Staley said in a recent video posted to X. “From writing on the bus, from writing curled up on my couch, from talking to my family , gathering to recount stories that ended up in the book, to it being a reality today. I am super proud. I am so excited. I am truly blessed that you all will buy the book and will enjoy it.”
Staley said Charlamagne Tha God, a South Carolina native and renowned media host and personality, was the person who prompted her to write the book.
Simon & Schuster, a publishing house, said the book “reveals the journey that led to Staley’s success, including the challenges she faced. From dealing with sexism on the court to feeling isolated in new environments, Staley honed her skills and learned valuable life lessons about mental fortitude and maturity that have grounded her throughout her career.”
The publishing house said the book is available for order on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and Bookshop for $28.99.
Staley’s career speaks for itself, having become a six-time WNBA All-Star and a three-time Olympic Gold medalist. She was the first person to win the Naismith College Player of the Year award while being a player and coach.

Staley has helped 13 Gamecocks collect 29 All-America selections and has sent 18 players to the WNBA Draft, 11 of whom have been first-round picks.
Staley was recently honored with a 14-foot-tall bronze statue, which was unveiled in April near downtown Columbia. She also became the highest paid women’s basketball coach in the United States after her contract with the university was extended in January.
