WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump headed to Capitol Hill Tuesday with a stern message to House Republicans to stay in line and his multi-trillion tax and spending bill.

President Donald Trump turned up the pressure, telling wavering House Republicans to what he calls his “big, beautiful bill” or face the political consequences.

Behind closed doors, the president told the House Republican Conference that they all must unite behind his multi-trillion dollar budget bill. White House sources say the President warned that any Republican who doesn’t back the bill could face a primary opponent.

“You have a couple that will grandstand, but I think even the grandstand is look, the alternative is a 68% tax increase. And you can blame the Democrats for that. And 1 or 2 grandstanding. We only have one issue, but we have tremendous .”

The president urged fiscal conservatives to give up their push to expand Medicaid cuts and some moderate Republicans to drop their efforts to raise the cap on state and local tax deductions.

The president’s bill would extend tax cuts due to expire in December, boost border spending, and repeal much of President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Democrats are unified in opposition to the legislation. That includes Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer who continues to criticize the President’s trade tariffs policy.

On the floor of the Senate, Minority Senator Chuck Schumer (D- N.Y.) said, “For someone who fancies himself a shrewd businessman, Donald Trump doesn’t seem to understand the pain his trade war has created for businesses.”

Despite the President’s arm twisting, his Capitol Hill visit appeared to fail to sway some key Republicans from more liberal states and conservatives who want steeper cuts to the federal budget deficit.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has a very narrow majority in the House. The House Rules Committee has called a meeting for the unusual time of 1am ET Wednesday.
