RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT/Gray News) - A Virginia elementary school student is being hailed as a hero for saving his classmate recently.

Richmond Public Schools says Miles J. Jones Elementary School fourth grader Rajique Redd-Sims quickly jumped into action when a friend began choking at lunch.

The school district said he performed the Heimlich maneuver, which he had learned just two weeks before the incident.

“Rajique’s bravery and Ms. Dorsey’s guidance exemplify the leadership and comion that define our RPS community,” school officials said in a newsletter. “Way to go, Rajique!”
